Great Coffee Starts With What Goes Into Your Cup. And What Your Cup Is Made Of.

When I started Dope Coffee Club, I had one simple goal: serve the kind of coffee I'd be proud to drink myself. I'm pretty particular about what I put into my body. I prefer organic foods, avoid unnecessary additives, and try to eliminate as much plastic from my daily routine as possible.

When I decided to start a coffee business in San Antonio, I wanted those same principles to carry over into every cup I serve.

Not just the coffee beans. The water, the brewing process, and even the cups themselves. Because to me, clean coffee is about more than just what's inside the cup.

I choose organic coffee because I care about how my food and beverages are produced.

Clean, Organic Coffee in San Antonio: Every Detail Matters. It Starts With Organic Coffee Beans You can buy the beans here from my Etsy shop.

Certified organic coffee is grown under agricultural standards that restrict the use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. That doesn't automatically mean every organic coffee is superior or completely free of residues, but it does mean the beans have to meet specific production requirements. For me, that's an important starting point.

I want coffee that's made from quality beans, without unnecessary ingredients or artificial flavors. Just organic coffee, brewed fresh. I don't believe a good cup of coffee needs to be complicated. My beans come from a family owned farms. Not corporate America.

The Water Matters, Too

Coffee is mostly water, so why would I pay attention to the beans and completely ignore the water? I use filtered water because I want to pay attention to every ingredient that goes into the finished product. Water quality can influence how coffee tastes, and filtration can reduce certain impurities depending on the system being used. It's another small detail that matters to me.

When you're serving something as simple as coffee, you don't have a dozen ingredients to hide behind. The quality of the basics matters.

Why Plastic-Free Coffee Cups ONLY

Here's where things get interesting. When I first started researching coffee cups, I discovered that many conventional disposable paper coffee cups have a thin plastic lining. That lining helps prevent the liquid from soaking through the paper. In other words, just because a cup looks like paper doesn't necessarily mean it's plastic-free.

And when you're pouring hot coffee into a container, I think it's reasonable to pay attention to what that container is made of. Research has shown that some plastic-lined disposable cups can release microscopic plastic particles into hot liquids under certain conditions. The amount varies depending on the materials, temperature, and how long the liquid remains in contact with the cup.

Scientists are still studying what different levels of microplastic exposure mean for human health, so I'm not going to pretend every plastic cup is dangerous. But personally, I'd rather reduce unnecessary plastic contact where I can.

That's why I made the decision to move toward plastic-free coffee cups for Dope Coffee Club. It's an additional expense, but it's something I care about. I don't pass that cost onto my customers. I eat that cost because I care.

If I'm going to put effort into sourcing organic coffee, I want to put that same effort into how I serve it.

Keeping the Brewing Process Simple

I love the simplicity of making coffee. Good beans. Clean water. A straightforward brewing process. For my individual pour-over coffee, I use stainless steel brewing equipment rather than relying on disposable plastic components.

There's something satisfying about making coffee the old-fashioned way, without needing a complicated machine to do all the work. I also offer cold brew for people who prefer something refreshing, especially during those warm San Antonio mornings. Whether it's hot coffee or cold brew, my approach remains the same: keep the ingredients simple and let the coffee speak for itself.

Is Organic Coffee Healthier?

This is a question I think deserves an honest answer. Organic certification tells you something about how coffee is produced. It doesn't guarantee that coffee is healthier, that it contains no contaminants, or that it has a particular nutritional advantage over conventional coffee. And while scientists are learning more about microplastics, there's still plenty we don't know about their long-term health effects.

I'm not interested in making exaggerated health claims or trying to scare people into buying my coffee. I'm simply making choices based on the things that matter to me. I prefer organic ingredients, I want to reduce unnecessary plastic use, and I believe customers should have more options when it comes to the products they consume.

That's really what Dope Coffee Club is about.

I'm not trying to build another giant coffee chain. We're a different kind of coffee business in San Antonio. I'm building a small, locally owned business that reflects the way I live.

One where I know what's going into the coffee, where I can personally serve my customers, and where I can continue improving the little things as the business grows. Whether you stop by for an early morning coffee before work, grab a cold brew on the weekend, or hire Dope Coffee Club for a wedding, corporate gathering, or local event, you're getting coffee prepared with those same principles in mind. Organic coffee. Simple ingredients. Thoughtful packaging. No unnecessary nonsense.
